The Kiss of the Cailleach

The Kiss of the Cailleach

Fall down amid the ruined leaves.
Fall down so light and sleep.
Fall down between the naked trees,
the ashes, oaks and firs.
Fall down and taste the sleeping earth,
the soils and dreaming rocks.
Fall down and dream of a warmer day,
when the world was still alive.

Fall down and weep a single tear,
a snowflake on the wind.
Fall down upon the sullen grass
and let the days go by.
Fall down and sleep another year
until the storms have passed.
Fall down and then to sleep again
in the sweet caress of death.
