Take Care of Business

Take care of business before you fly.
Divvy up the stuff. Unload the weight.
The gold and jewels, houses and cars,
give it all away and forget it ever was.
Weight is the final nagging question.
When you get the load down to zero,
zero and only zero, you’re ready to go.
When nothing is left to call you back,
not a thing left to which you cling
turn away, alone, and fly away free.
Leave us quiet and puzzling it all out.
Quiet prayers said on the busy air too.
Funny stories fly around and then away.
Papers and photos flutter like the leaves.
Nothing that counts weighs anything.
